The BCTGM International Scholarship Program awards ten (10) $1,000 one-time awards each year. The competition is open to members of the BCTGM and to the children of members, all of whom must meet the eligibility requirements established by the General Executive Board as well as the Rules and Procedures which the GEB has also approved.
At least one of the ten scholarships is designated for a Canadian and up to three of the ten are designated for members of the BCTGM.
The International Union will deposit a one-time sum of $1,000 for each scholarship winner with the accredited college, recognized technical or vocational post-secondary school at which the award winner registered and is attending.
An applicant must be either:
* a member of the BCTGM in good standing, or
* the son, daughter, stepchild or legally adopted child of a BCTGM member in good standing, or
* the child of a deceased person who had at least five years of membership, or
* any member or child of a member who has retired from the industry under the rules of the B&C Union and Industry Pension Fund, of a recognized local union retirement program or a retired member of the former Tobacco Workers International Union or a retired member of the former American Federation of Grain Millers. Such retirees are considered in good standing, or
* office employees or children of those office employees employed at the International Union office—excluding those holding staff positions.
In addition, applicants must be either:
* high school students planning to enter college, or a recognized technical or vocational post-secondary school for the first time following their graduation during 2006, or
* high school graduates who have never attended college or a recognized technical or vocational school, or
* MEMBERS ONLY who have never applied to our program previously and who are currently enrolled or planning to commence or resume studies in the fall.
