Scholarship Description

Applicants must:
* be a resident of the state of Florida and substantiate residency,
* have a high school diploma or the equivalent, and
* have had at least one year of culinary experience, either as a student or employee.
Scholarship recipients may reapply for continuing scholarships for a maximum of four years. Recipients who reapply for a scholarship will be given priority consideration over new applicants provided they maintain a grade average of B- or above.

The James Beard Foundation and Friends of James Beard Scholarships

Applicants must be high school seniors or graduates* who plan to enroll or who are already enrolled at least part-time in a course of study leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree at a licensed or accredited culinary school (unless otherwise specified for a particular award). Preference may be given to students who demonstrate financial need. Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply for a scholarship each year they meet eligibility requirements.

*Appropriate work experience may substitute for high school graduation for certain scholarships.

All applicants meeting the above criteria will automatically be considered for the James Beard Foundation General Scholarships and the 10 Friends of James Beard Scholarships with no other specific eligibility requirements.

Students may apply for up to three (3) Friends of James Beard Scholarships with specified requirements by checking the corresponding box(es) on the application. Review eligibility requirements carefully. Applicants must meet the requirements as specified to be considered for a particular award.
