Billy Cheverie, an avid golfer, was 17 years old when he died in 1988 of an undiscovered heart condition. Billy started playing golf when he was 8 years old and became a junior member of the York Country Club at 12. He and his father, Harry Cheverie, played golf at least once a week preparing him for competitive play at the local high school. During his three years on the York High School golf team, Billy remained undefeated and was selected for the Regional All-Star Team for three consecutive seasons. Billy was named Player of the Week for the State of Maine only one week before his untimely death. The Billy Cheverie Memorial Scholarship Fund is a tribute to Billy from family and friends for the youth of the Seacoast.
ELIGIBILITY
The Billy Cheverie Memorial Scholarship provides scholarship assistance to graduating seniors of Portsmouth, York, Winnacunnet high schools and Traip Academy. Students from these communities who attend St. Thomas High School, Philips Exeter Academy or Berwick Academy are also eligible to apply.
