The VSGC Community College STEM Scholarship Program provides awards of $1,500 to students enrolled at one of Virginia’s community colleges in a program of study in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM). A major goal of the VSGC is to help develop the technical, scientific and research workforce that America needs to stay competitive in the world marketplace. This workforce includes technical workers as well as engineers and scientists. Virginia’s community colleges have historically given their students the background and preparation for immediate employment in technical fields following program completion while helping prepare others for further studies at four-year institutions.
Eligibility
The scholarship program is open to U.S. citizens who are currently enrolled in a Virginia community college for at least 12 semester hours and have completed at least one semester of coursework. Students may be enrolled in any STEM program of study that includes coursework related to an understanding of or interest in technological fi elds supporting aerospace. This can include associates degree programs in advanced technology fields such as, but not limited to, engineering, computers, electronics and industrial technology. Successful scholarship recipients should have grade point averages of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Since an important purpose of this program is to increase the participation of underrepresented minorities, females, and persons with dis abilities in aerospace-related, high technology careers, the VSGC especially encourages applications from these students.
