The Gibson Foundation offers 2%-interest loans to students whose family home has been located in western Pennsylvania for more than 8 years (see website for map). Eligible students must also be in good academic standing at an accredited college or university, and they must have completed 2 or more full-time semesters at their current college within the past 4 months. (Gibson Loans are not available to first-year undergraduate or graduate students.) Amounts of exisiting education/credit card debt must fall within the Foundation's established parameters (call to verify).
Undergraduates may borrow a cumulative total of $12,000.
Graduate students may borrow a cumulative total of $18,000.
Interest at 2% must be paid while the student is in school. The interest increases to 5% and principal payments are required to begin one year after graduation.
